What is the Erasmus+ Program?
One of the factors behind the educational success of institutions is opening up the world and giving their students the opportunity to contribute to their individual development. Through the Comenius Project, we have been going in this direction for the last six years. Supported by the European National Agency, our Comenius club students have been working with countries such as Denmark, Sweden, Greece, Spain and Germany, we continue to work on the Project, which has been renamed ‘the Erasmus + project’ by the national agency.
The Erasmus + Program began on January 1, 2014; ‘Erasmus’ is the general name of a programme that provides support in the fields of education, youth and sports, catering for different ages and different target groups.
In the workshops they have joined so far, Our Erasmus + Club students have discussed problems related to policies, economics, environmental issues and threats to democracy in their countries, and have suggested solutions. At the conclusion of the workshops, they composed songs and presented them on stage, together with videos outlining their solutions to the problems. Within the project, short films were made, and dances involving disabled young people were choreographed. In addition, the city was explored in wheelchairs, and amenities for the visually impaired in the city were evaluated. Many other topics were also discussed. On several occasions, those students who discussed disability, homelessness and the position of the elderly in society in the workshops which took place in different countries, were declared the ‘best-prepared group’. Throughout the project, our students realised the importance of English in life. They improved their English skills, had fun, and saw the value of the language teaching they receive.
